The Free Software Movement

The free software movement is a new social movement which aims to protect the rights of users to access and modify software.

OpenOffice.org OpenOffice.org is the free equivalent to Microsoft Office. It features all the necessary office programs, including a Document Formatter (Writer), Spreadsheets (Calc), and Presentations (Impress). Also supports many formats, including Microsoft formats.

The GIMP The GIMP is the Graphical Image Manipulation program. It has all the features of a professional image program (ie Photoshop), but is entirely open source. Features include wand-select, layers, blur, blend, dodge, burn, paint, colors, backgrounds, multiple formats, among many others.

Firefox The popular web browser from Mozilla. It is reliably safer than other browsers, and typically better compatible with most websites (it displays them more as they were intended).
